Ode to Toronto

Saw this video linked on ISS. It is a homage to Toronto by Abd-Om-Inal ft. Notes to Self.

I usually hate Canadian hip-hop, but this song is very true to the spirit of the city. No thug posturing, the beat and lyrics seem well suited to the vibe found in TO.

Street Peeper

If you're bored and looking for a way to check out different street style in major cities around the world check out street peeper/.

It features street style pics from a handful of cities around the world, and best of all is searchable by style AND Label.

I agree some of the fits suck, but shit you aint doing nothing right now anyway.

plus you get some babes like this fine specimen on the left

Do NOT eat here ( A cautionary burrito tale)

Okay, so im hungry for lunch and have some extra time on my break. I figure a burrito is always satisfying, filling, and good value. Well apparently not at Z-teca.

Z-teca claims to serve "gourmet burritos" and ive been meaning to check them out for awhile as they are a 5min walk from my office @ bay/king.

The service is fast and prompt. But once i get in line I realize there are a limited choice of toppings. Here is the ordering process in pics.

the order

I order the grilled chicken fajita burrito (comes with sauteed veggies), and it's topped with some salsa, sour cream and rice. Unfortunetly upon the first bite, it was nothing but disappointment.

The burrito was warm, but seriously lacking meat content, in other words the meat to carb ratio was atrocious. Not only that , the rice was totally bland and unflavored and they seemed to have jipped me on the veggies. The burrito's texture reminded me of sushi more than anything else (and not in a good way). All around the experience felt cheap and uninspired. There was no hotsauce provided at the place, so I had to resort to leftover packets of Taco Bell hotsauce to get me through the lackluster experience.

Overall the meal was not worth the almost 8 bucks I paid. I didn't expect the world from Z-teca, but seriously this place sucks. I can't imagine the other items on the menu tasting that much better. I already have an issue with the genrification of "cheap" and utilitarian foods turned gourmet, but thats a topic for another day..
I'll judy leave it at this : I definetly would not consider repeating the experience...

Still haven't found a place in Toronto that can beat Burrito Boys.

What are you Wearing Today?

I was on coolhunting today, and saw that Sidney Lo's gallery showing is garnering much attention. In the site's own words "At only 21, Lo's work shows a maturity beyond his years and proves him to be a thoughtful documentarian of both people, place and well—time. You can check out more of his portfolio on his site."

I've seen Sidney really grow as a photographer and as a person, which is sort of creepy and cool in the same time considering i've only known of him through online forums and conversations. Regardless I'm glad his hardwork is finally paying off as his year long journey of jean-wearing, globe-trotting, photo taking and hair-growing is on display for the public.

First hypebeast, and now coolhunting, Sidney shows he's the modern day marty mcfly as he's back from the future

Wish i could've made it, but I hope all the Toronto peeps who drove/flew down have a blast. (Kyle, Matt , and co I see you)

Pics of the aftermath soon (i hope)

Banned Boondocks Episodes

I forgot about this show for a little while, but whether you're a long-time watcher or brand new to the show, this may be interesting news to you.
Two episodes of the show have been banned from airing in the States, but of course i got you guys the scoop here.

Apparently these episodes were banned for their negative portrayl of BET and it's CEO Debra Lee in particular.

Heart of the City Tour

If you weren't aware last night was the kickoff in Miami for the North American Tour.

There were quite a few surprises, and one can only hope the show in TO is half as good as this one looked.

Guest Appearances by Kanye, Timbo, Jeezy , DREAM, and others meant fans really got their money's worth.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Also of note DJ Neil Armstrong has been selected as the the official DJ of the tour, and ?uestlove is taking the reigns by directing the band.

Mellinda Mae-Harlingten @ Toronto Fashion Week

Mellinda shown here on the right is a promising Canadian designer.

Had the chance to attend this show on Monday.

While not ground breaking, it was a well-put together and thoughtful collection of wearable pieces at reasonable pricepoints. Mostly greyscale with a few splashes of color.

A video of the show taken by me has been uploaded to youtube. It shows all the looks at the end of the show

Check more of her work here

and a star article about the show here
