Number (N)ine F/W 2009/2010 " A Closed Feeling"

While I feel Number Nine has struggled to create anything memorable or particuarly strong over the last couple of years their latest showing for F/W 2009/10 is absolutely striking. This may not be "wearable" to some, but at least the collection can be taken as a "complete idea". The way it has been presented here is simply incredible.

I stumbled accross a video of this very show and it was jaw-dropping. Dazeddigital has put up the video HERE

Raf Simons Peter Saville

Both legends in their own right i managed to find a hoody from the fw 2003-2004 season that had the factory records logo (joy division, new order et all). That kind of sparked my interest in some of the other pieces from that collaboration I managed to find this old picture of that raf simons season.

If anyone could link me to more photos of this season ill love you forever.

Mellinda Mae-Harlingten @ Toronto Fashion Week

Mellinda shown here on the right is a promising Canadian designer.

Had the chance to attend this show on Monday.

While not ground breaking, it was a well-put together and thoughtful collection of wearable pieces at reasonable pricepoints. Mostly greyscale with a few splashes of color.

A video of the show taken by me has been uploaded to youtube. It shows all the looks at the end of the show

Check more of her work here

and a star article about the show here

Tim Hamilton for Uniqlo

Once again Uniqlo (DIP) designer invitiation project brings another wearable and versatile range this time designed by Tim Hamilton. As always he retains his signature nouveau classic American prep look, but this time at much more affordable price points.

a couple of my favorite looks.

The stuff should be in Uniqlo stores come Spring.

I'll have to see if I can get someone in NY to grab me some of this stuff as i am SURE it will sell fast.

The Perfect Scent

Came across an article in the star introducing an interesting book about the process of making scents.the star

Basically the book touches on some of what goes on behind the scenes in the perfuming industry. The amount of work and attention to detail that goes into creating unique and imagination-capturing scents is absolutely incredible. Hence why I tend to really appreciate when brands keep creative control of their scents from conception to market.

A good example of this is CDG (comme des garcons) fragrance line. One of their latest offerings being Oduer 53 described as

"An abstract anti perfume. The latest technology is used to clone odours from inorganic materials. Smells never before used, with no precise name only abstract ideas."
NOTES: The freshness of oxygen, nail polish, flash of metal, cellulosic smell, pure air of the high mountains, sand dunes, fire energy, ultimate fusion, wash drying in the wind, burnt rubber, mineral intensity of carbon, flaming rock."

Blue Jean Confidental

CBC produced an interesting doc about the history of denim and how it's changed in both its construction and public perception of the years. The doc touches on vintage denim hunters, Japanese collectors , washing/fading techniques and much more. Kiya over at selfedge helped put this together, so you know they had to get some things right.

If you missed the first airing you can still catch it online here.

Fast fashion, fair prices

While H&M seems to be focusing on more mainstream designers (Cavalli, V+R) to do their designer collabos, uniqlo choses to go with promising up and coming designers.

The latest DIP (designer invitation project ) being with Loden Dager. While not particularly exciting, it's well executed spring collection. As always expect low pricepoints and quality detailing for the price. I wouldnt mind that blazer myself.

This should release in March but good luck getting it the only N.American store is in Soho.
